An urban explorer

Cities, and the people who inhabit them, have always fascinated Katie.

Growing up outside of Birmingham—an architectural mishmash, infamous for its industrial past and divisive postwar brutalism—Katie’s eye is attuned to the unpolished, less visible layers of the urban landscape and the stories they contain.

Sense of place

As with her portraits, Katie enjoys the spontaneity of street photography. A solo photo walk through an urban environment is Katie’s favourite way to gain a sense of place, within which the camera becomes vehicle for discovery.

Tradition and modernity

Nowhere intrigues Katie so much as Japan. With its complex history marked by cultural exchange and rapid modernisation, Japan’s urban centres are filled with stories.
